Don’t miss Afghan superstar Dawood Sarkhosh as he makes his North American premiere at Bella Concert hall in Calgary Alberta. Sarzamin-e Man (My Homeland) is a tale of separation by the acclaimed poet, composer, singer, dombra and rubab player. This special program features a series of songs that seek to unite communities and provide refuge from conflict.
This event takes place at Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary on December 2017.
Dawood Sarkhosh is an Afghan poet, singer, and musician who belongs to the Hazara, one of the largest ethnic groups in Afghanistan. At a young age, he began to compose poetry, play the dombra (long-necked stringed lute), and sing, and studied with and was inspired by his elder brother, Sarwar Sarkhosh, who perished in the civil war. He moved to Pakistan and studied accordion with Pakistani composer Arbab Ali Khan, composing songs and reviving folk melodies inspired by a sense of nationalism and the experiences of millions of Afghan refugees around the world. He has recorded six albums and has spent the past 30 years touring Europe, Asia, and Australia
